Why windows matter

Up to 87% of a home's heat gain comes through the windows.*

Glass is the weak spot in most homes. In a Queensland summer, single glazing lets the heat straight in and your air con works harder to push it back out.

  • 1
Two panes, one sealed gapThe gap between the panes slows heat moving through the glass, in both directions.
  • 2
Quieter roomsCuts traffic, neighbours and street noise. Ask about laminated glass if noise is the main problem.
  • 3
Less condensationThe inside pane stays closer to room temperature, so less moisture on the glass.
  • 4
Your air con and solar go furtherLess heat getting in means less cooling needed, so more of your solar is left over for everything else.

Double glazing FAQ

Good questions.

Do I have to replace the whole window?
Not always. Depending on your frames, the options range from fitting new double-glazed glass into your existing frames to replacing the window completely. We'll look at your frames during your consult and tell you which makes sense.
Which windows should I do first?
Usually the ones that cop the most sun, typically west and north facing, and the rooms you spend the most time in. If noise is the issue, start with the side facing the street.
Will it make my home quieter?
Double glazing reduces outside noise noticeably. If noise is your main reason, tell us. Laminated glass and the right gap between the panes make a bigger difference.
Is there a rebate on double glazing?
There's no federal rebate on double glazing. NSW households (including Tweed) may be able to use the NSW Government's interest-free Home Energy Saver loan, which covers double glazing. Your quote shows the full price clearly either way.
How long does it take?
Windows are measured on site and made to order, then installed. We'll give you the timeline with your quote.
